Once known as the industrial—especially textile and clothing—capital of Poland, Łódź has undergone a massive technological and organizational transformation in its industrial sector over the past three decades. Today, the city is moving toward the concept of Industry 4.0, which combines physical production and operations with smart digital technologies.
For nearly 30 years, Łódź and the Łódź region have been undisputed leaders in household appliance (white goods) manufacturing. According to experts, every second product in this sector manufactured in Europe is made in Poland—and a significant portion of that production takes place in Łódź.
The success of Łódź’s manufacturing sector is driven by several factors: a strong industrial heritage, the city’s size and population, its strategic central location in Poland and Europe at the crossroads of major motorways, and an education system tailored to the needs of the evolving labor market. Another crucial element is the Łódź Special Economic Zone, which has played a pivotal role in attracting investment and has been repeatedly recognized by industry bodies as the best SEZ in Europe.
One of the leading annual events dedicated to the manufacturing sector is the Household Appliances Congress (Kongres AGD).
