Łódź, once the European capital of the textile industry, is today consistently building its position as a center of modern manufacturing, logistics
and industrial technologies.
The industrial heritage of the region is being combined with digital transformation, automation, and sustainable development, creating
a cohesive Industry X.0 ecosystem.
Modern industry in Łódź and the Łódź metropolitan area
is based on a mature manufacturing base, developed logistics infrastructure, and a strong skills foundation, making the region
one of the key industrial hubs in Poland and Central Europe, capable
of rapidly launching, scaling, and modernizing production activities.
The industrial sector remains one of the key pillars of Łódź’s economy:
52,560 people employed in the industrial sector in Łódź,
91,612 in the Łódź metropolitan area,
231,595 in Łódź Voivodeship,
Sold industrial output exceeding 44 billion PLN annually,
4.97 million m² of modern industrial and logistics space — TOP 3 in Poland.
The structure of the sector includes both large international company plants and an extensive network of small and medium-sized firms that often act as suppliers and subcontractors. This setup supports supply chain resilience and enables rapid scaling of production operations.
Logistics is strongly integrated with production in the region, supporting both the domestic market and international supply chains.
Strategic factors for the development of modern industry include:
a complete road ring: A1, A2, S8, S14,
a multimodal logistics network,
planned high-speed rail and Central Communication Port (CPK),
around 400 ha of investment land ready for production (e.g., Olechów, Chocianowice, Nowy Józefów).
Łódź is a key node in the growing Golden Y macro-region, connecting Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań, and Wrocław.
Modern industry in the region is developing across several strong specializations, including:
household appliances and electromechanical industry,
industrial automation and robotics,
automotive and components manufacturing,
electronics and ICT technologies,
fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and packaging,
logistics and supply chain services.
Both global corporations and well-established Polish companies operate here. Important investors include Miele, BSH, Whirlpool, ABB, Corning, Hydro Extrusion, Hutchinson, Procter & Gamble, Amcor, Rossmann, and Barry Callebaut — many of which reinvest in the region by expanding production lines and implementing advanced technologies.
Łódź is developing as a hub for Industry X.0, meaning an integration of manufacturing, digital technologies, and sustainable development. The transformation of the sector covers:
automation and robotics,
digitalization of production and logistics,
use of AI, IoT, and data analytics,
integration of IT and operational systems (IT/OT),
industrial cybersecurity,
process optimization and energy efficiency.
Invest in Łódź carries out long-term activities supporting the development of modern industry and logistics, including:
attracting manufacturing and logistics investments,
supporting investors through location, expansion, and reinvestment,
building and promoting the Industry X.0 ecosystem.
A key part of this is integrating business with universities, technical schools, and economic support institutions. Łódź hosts regular events that bring together the industrial and logistics communities, such as:
Industry X.0 Conference — linking industry and logistics and promoting Łódź as a future industrial city,
Logistic and Warehouse Trends — a conference showing modern intralogistics,
expert meetings and industry workshops.
Invest in Łódź initiates and co-creates sector analyses and reports, including:
The Potential of the Manufacturing and Logistics Market in the Łódź Region – Invest in Łódź / CBRE / Randstad,

Industry X.0 | Analysis of the Industrial Sector in Łódź and the Łódź Metropolitan Area – Invest in Łódź / Lodz University of Technology (ABB and Corning are partners of the first stage of the study).
Another key pillar is the development of a “community-first” cooperation model, based on dialogue between industry, academia, and public administration.
The region is supported by a strong academic base, with 72,000 students and approximately 17,000 graduates annually, including nearly 5,000 engineers from the Lodz University of Technology. A flagship initiative launched by Invest in Łódź in 2025, “Education for Industry X.0,” focuses on building a future-oriented talent pipeline by better aligning education with industry needs, expanding internships and traineeships, and strengthening cooperation between schools and companies.
Invest in Łódź is also an official member of the LODZistics cluster, which enhances cooperation between business, local government, and business-support institutions. Through this involvement, the city actively participates in the development of the logistics sector in the region, supports companies, and co-creates initiatives aimed at building a sustainable, modern, and innovative supply chain.
“Taste Studying in Łódź” and “Taste Working in Łódź” are initiatives addressed to secondary school students and high-school graduates from Łódź and the Łódź region. Their goal is to allow young people to directly experience what studying and working in a modern academic and industrial environment in the region looks like.
The programs enable participants not only to explore university educational offerings, but also to visit manufacturing plants, laboratories, R&D centers, and modern workplaces within industrial and technology companies. As a result, young people can consciously plan their future educational and career paths based on real-world experience rather than theory alone.
The initiatives include study visits, meetings with engineers and specialists, presentations of production processes, and discussions with representatives of companies and universities. The projects involve, among others, engineering and industrial companies such as Corning, Hydro, Emerson, and Procter & Gamble, as well as logistics and technology partners.
The development of modern industry in Łódź and the region also includes the active integration of technology startups into the Industry X.0 ecosystem.
As part of the Startups Powered by Invest in Łódź (Central Poland) program, teams developing solutions for industry are given direct access to the market
— including manufacturing and logistics companies, as well as decision-makers responsible for technology implementation.
During the Industry X.0 Conference, a new Industrial Path within the Startups Powered by Invest in Łódź program was announced, dedicated to teams developing solutions for the manufacturing and logistics sectors. The program operates on a rolling admission basis and is addressed to startups that want to develop their technologies in close cooperation with industry and participate in key moments shaping the Industry X.0 ecosystem in Łódź and the region.
